Bernardo Pires de Lima (Lisbon, 1979) is a Political Advisor to the President of Portugal. He is also an Associate Fellow at the Portuguese Institute of International Relations, Nova University of Lisbon and a regular contributor to several Portuguese media outlets. Previously, he was a Nonresident Fellow at the SAIS Center for Transatlantic Relations, Johns Hopkins University, in Washington DC and Associate Fellow at the National Defense Institute, in Lisbon. He is an alumnus of the German Marshall Fund’s Marshall Memorial Fellowship, the George C. Marshall Center’s Leaders Program on Advanced Security Studies and the Future European Leadership Program from the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Author of eight books, including Portugal na Era dos Homens Fortes (2020) and The B-Side of Europe: A Journey to the 28 Capital Cities (2019), he has been lecturing at several universities and diplomatic academies, and his opinions have been published in the Huffington Post, The National Interest, Hurriyet Daily News, Berlin Policy Journal and The Diplomat.
